Busia County occupies one of the most strategic economic positions in East Africa. Every day, thousands of people, businesses and goods pass through our county as they move between Kenya, Uganda and the wider East and Central African region. Yet despite this strategic advantage, many residents continue to face unemployment, low incomes, limited market access and persistent poverty.
The challenge facing Busia is not a lack of potential. The challenge is converting our strategic location, natural resources and entrepreneurial spirit into broad-based economic prosperity.
My vision is to help position Busia as a leading center for trade, agriculture, logistics, manufacturing and enterprise development in the region.
Supporting Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs
Small and medium enterprises form the backbone of Busia's economy. From market traders and boda boda operators to manufacturers, retailers and service providers, thousands of families depend on business activity for their livelihoods.
However, many entrepreneurs face challenges including:
- Limited access to affordable financing
- High cost of doing business
- Limited business development support
- Market access constraints
- Regulatory challenges
I will support policies that strengthen the business environment and improve access to opportunities for entrepreneurs across the county. When businesses grow, jobs are created and communities prosper.
Strengthening Value Addition
Busia produces significant agricultural and fisheries output, yet much of this production leaves the county in raw form. This means we export jobs, income and opportunities that could otherwise remain within our communities.
I will champion policies that promote:
- Agro-processing
- Fish processing
- Packaging industries
- Storage facilities
- Industrial and manufacturing investment
Value addition creates employment, increases farmer incomes and strengthens local economies.
Positioning Busia as a Regional Trade Hub
Busia should not merely serve as a transit point. It should become a major beneficiary of regional trade. The county's strategic border location creates opportunities in:
- Logistics
- Warehousing
- Transport services
- Financial services
- Hospitality
- Export-oriented industries
I will advocate for policies that leverage Busia's location to attract investment and create jobs. The future of Busia is closely tied to regional integration and trade.
Expanding Investment Opportunities
Investment creates jobs, stimulates economic activity and broadens the tax base. Busia has significant untapped opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, tourism, renewable energy and technology.
I will work with public and private sector stakeholders to position Busia as an attractive destination for investment and enterprise.

Economic growth must benefit everyone. Women, youth, persons with disabilities and marginalized communities must be active participants in Busia's economic future — not bystanders watching others prosper.
