Busia's unique position as Kenya's gateway to East Africa brings enormous economic opportunities, but it also presents security challenges that require coordinated, modern and people-centred solutions. These include cross-border crime, livestock theft, motorcycle theft, smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and emerging forms of organised criminal activity that affect our communities.
1. Stronger Security Infrastructure
I will advocate increased national investment in security infrastructure across Busia, including:
- Modern police stations and police posts
- Enhanced border security infrastructure
- Improved surveillance systems in high-risk areas
- Better transport, communication and operational equipment for security officers
- Increased deployment of security resources to underserved communities
Every resident deserves timely access to security services regardless of where they live.
2. A Safer Border, A Stronger Economy
Busia is one of East Africa's busiest border corridors. Our border should remain a gateway for legitimate trade and not a route for criminal activity.
I will champion stronger collaboration among security agencies to combat:
- Cross-border organised crime
- Smuggling of illicit goods
- Drug trafficking
- Human trafficking
- Illegal movement of stolen motorcycles and livestock
At the same time, I will advocate security measures that facilitate lawful trade and protect honest traders whose livelihoods depend on cross-border commerce.
3. Community Policing & Public Trust
Security cannot be achieved by government alone. It requires a strong partnership between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
I will support:
- Community policing initiatives
- Local security forums
- Citizen reporting mechanisms
- Improved collaboration between village elders, Nyumba Kumi structures, administrators and police
Communities that trust their security institutions are safer, more resilient and better equipped to prevent crime.
4. Supporting Our Security Officers
Effective policing requires adequate personnel, proper equipment and professional working conditions.
I will advocate for:
- Increased staffing in security agencies serving Busia
- Better mobility and operational resources

Our officers deserve the resources necessary to protect our communities effectively.
5. Protecting Young People from Crime and Drugs
Long-term security begins by addressing the root causes of crime.
I will support national policies and partnerships that expand opportunities for young people while tackling:
- Drug and substance abuse
- Youth unemployment
- Radicalisation and criminal recruitment

- Push for additional police personnel and modern operational resources where they are most needed

- Use the Senate's oversight role to follow up on major security concerns affecting our county
- Work with Parliament, the Ministry of Interior, county leadership and local communities to ensure Busia receives the security attention it deserves
- Advocate policies that address the economic and social drivers of crime while protecting constitutional freedoms
